Artist Statement:
This body of work portrays my fascination with color, pattern, and texture. As a reaction to urban jungle life, this artist chooses to portray the often scorned “winged rats”. What remains invisible to most, is that the pigeon survives humanity’s way of life, with grace and beauty intact.
The pigeon adapts and raises its young on dangerous ledges and industrial mazes. The pigeon scavenges for food, often relying on human waste as nutrition. The pigeon stands strong, even if one of its legs has been injured by human machinery. No matter what city, no matter where in the world: the pigeon holds strong and its presence becomes part of the landscape.
What would the pigeon look like if their natural land still flourished? This is for the many generations of future survival birds…may the viewer look at them anew.
